Living in Lesotho tends to be a calm place but it still has its moments of unrest. This past week there were marches and a “stay-away,” meaning people were not supposed to go to work. Just outside of Maseru, where we live, riots were going on. It was unclear as to how much things would progress, so the guys were sent home early to be with their families and get things collected just in case there was a need to flee the country. When Justin got home we gathered a few things that were irreplaceable … well, what we consider irreplaceable, like pictures. I mentioned to him that I wish we could take our dogs and cats if it came down to leaving. One of our dogs we brought with us from the U.S. to provide some sort of continuity in our lives, and I wouldn’t want to leave her. Since then I can’t help but think about the things I hold on to in this world. Moving is always difficult and having to leave things, animals, and friends behind can cause heartache. The Lord has gently reminded me that no matter where I go He is always the same and He is with us. He is the one and only constant we can depend on no matter what situation we find ourselves.

“You hem me in – behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:5-10)
